Gifted Young Players

The Recorder Courses Lyme

Annual Residential Recorder Course for Gifted Young Players

Since 2014, thanks to a unique collaboration with the Walter Bergmann Fund (part of the Society of Recorder Players), RCL has held a 3 day residential recorder course for talented young players (aged 14 – 18).  This is an exciting and unique opportunity for gifted young recorder players to meet, play together and be taught and encouraged by an inspiring and enthusiastic role model.

Our aim is to encourage them to consider pursuing the recorder after leaving school, as well as raising the profile of recorder playing generally in this age group.  As well as technique, the focus is on very high standard ensemble playing, as it is often not possible for these players to play with others of a similar standard.

“We all had a brilliant time and it will definitely inspire us to become better recorder players.”

“For some of us, it was the first time we had played the larger instruments (great bass and contra), but everyone got the chance over the weekend.”

Tom Beets of the Flanders Recorder Quartet is the tutor for the course.

“it is humbling to see just how good some of these young players are.  If we can support them now and inspire them to continue playing into adulthood, the future of recorder playing will be in good hands”

We need your help!

Our hope is that a combination of corporate sponsorship and donations from those attending our other courses will enable us to replace the support we have had so far from the Walter Bergmann fund.

Just £10 from everyone attending one of our adult courses would go a long way towards making this a regular event.  Please just tick the box on our booking form, if you feel you could add £10 (or more) to your course fee.

We are also keen to hear from businesses in the recorder world who would like the profile of being associated with this.  We are happy to discuss a link on our website, your name on the course material etc.

For further information and to discuss this, please contact Josée Beeson on the following email: or by phone: +44 (0) 7711 307105.
