Tom Beets

Tom Beets

Tom was born in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, in 1983 and has been an enthusiastic recorder player from an early age. He studied at the Lemmensinstitute in Leuven (Belgium) with Bart Spanhove and Bart Coen and then the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya (Spain) with Pedro Memelsdorff.

Apart from the usual baroque repertoire his interest lies in music history and medieval music performance. He has travelled across Europe and performed, both solo and with various ensembles. Tom has taken many masterclasses, in particular with Kees Boeke, Fumiharu Yoshimine, Marion Verbruggen and Andrew-Lawrence King.  Since 2007 he has toured the world with the Flanders Recorder Quartet.

Josee BeesonJosée Beeson

Josée is a well-known figure in the UK recorder world. She started running recorder courses over 10 years ago, mostly in Lyme Regis and at the Recorder Summer School, with some of the top recorder teachers from the UK and across Europe and even from Canada. Exposure to such a wide range of high level recorder tuition is almost unprecedented. Josée combines this with over 30 years of teaching to offer participants at all levels a unique perspective in the relevant skills and techniques needed to make the most of their recorder playing.

Anyone who has been on a recorder course in Lyme will know that Josée's aim is for everyone to have fun, while playing the recorder!

About the course

This is a unique opportunity to learn from two teachers with very different backgrounds but who each have such a lot to offer in terms of technique, music making and having fun!

The course is designed for players who can play all sizes of recorder (descant to bass) and are proficient at sight reading.  There will be a mixture of music from different eras and the objective is to have fun exploring this variety of music in a friendly, supportive and encouraging atmosphere.  There will be a focus on the skills of ensemble playing and recorder technique.

The timetable is flexible and will vary according to the needs and wishes of those attending.  The course will start with tea and coffee at 4.00pm on Monday 7th and will finish at 11.30 on Friday 11th.  The early part of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons is free for relaxation, exploring Lyme Regis or informal recorder playing.
